Experiencia fantástica: I was in Santa Marta for a friend’s birthday and decided last minute to address a cosmetic concern with one of my teeth. I already suspected it wasn’t “just a gap” — I’ve had TMJ and grinding issues — but this dentist really took the time to explain what was happening. He confirmed that my grinding and bite alignment were contributing factors and explained how an uneven bite can gradually create spacing and wear. I appreciated that he looked at the bigger picture instead of just treating it cosmetically. For now, he conservatively closed the space with resin, keeping everything natural and proportionate. He was honest that fully closing it would have made my teeth look too wide, which I respected. The result looks subtle and balanced. He spoke English, had excellent reviews, and was clearly comfortable treating international patients. If I’m back in the area, I would absolutely return — especially for more comprehensive work. Very positive experience overall.

Experiencia negativa: Hard to know how to review this one because I am still quite confused. I had an issue with my wisdom teeth whilst on holiday in Colombia, and had a consultation with Dr Alfonso. He was helpful and polite and had very good English, recommended I have an xray to remove my tooth. Then he told me it was too challenging to remove so I would need to have another xray to remove the top one instead. He then confirmed this was easier and that a surgeon would meet us at the practice. I had queried the plan as I had spoken to a dentist in the UK and sent an xray who told me removing the bottom one was the best approach and only real solution. They didn’t provide much openness to consider this and told me they would be removing the top one anyway. After injecting local anaesthetic, the ‘surgeon’ started aggressively pushing and pulling on the wrong tooth at the top. I was in so much pain I shouted to stop, and then queried what was happening. Dr Alfonso told me they were removing the back wisdom tooth and that I was just confused and they have only been touching this tooth. I was in so much pain and he had worked to convince me so I let them continue and then they pressed on the wrong tooth again, in a very aggressive manner to the point I felt searing pain and a slight cracking sensation. I shouted to stop again and asked for a mirror to see what was happening. They continued to tell me that I was just confused, but when I looked with the mirror they started to pull on the correct tooth at the back gently, which felt entirely different. I was very visibly upset and they continued to just tell me that’s what they had been doing the whole time. I ended up leaving as I felt very manipulated and confused, frightened I was going to end up with multiple damaged teeth at the top. I got some anti-biotics instead. I still feel very confused as to what happened or why this was the case, and despite me trusting them up to this point, something felt very wrong. Having now read a previous review from a tourist in a similar boat who ended up with multiple damaged teeth I’m thankful I left. But it was very distressing! I wouldn’t recommend this place for tooth extraction as a tourist.

The crown is beautiful and he spent a lot of time ensuring my bite was correct. I also had my teeth whitened and I can’t believe what a difference it’s made. He was very communicative, I always felt I knew what he was doing and why. Easy to contact through WhatsApp too!

Experiencia negativa: I was on vacation in the area and my tooth started to hurt. The doctor recommended an extraction and said he should bring in an expert surgeon for that and said he was excellent. The doctor did the extraction in the worst way possible! He left part of the root in the gums and drilled into the next healthy tooth and destroyed it!!! Now I have to have another tooth extracted. Just a nightmare! Alfonso was indeed very nice, but all this does not help when he brings doctors to perform treatments when they are not professionals in any way.

I'm from Australia but was in Colombia for holidays and thought I may as well get my teeth whitened in Santa Marta, as it's something I would not consider back home due to the prices. Let me say the entire process was absolutely fantastic! I just sent a quick whatsapp message to organise an appointment, it took around an hour, and the price was great. Both Dr Alfonso and his son are so friendly and speak great English, his son even gave me recommendations of places to go in Santa Marta! I couldn't believe the level of service, Dr Alfonso was even so kind as to drop extra whitening gel off at my hostel. My teeth must be at least 6 shades whiter, they are looking so terrific that I now actively abstain from coffee and red wine, I just love how they look! Thank you Dr Alfonso!

Experiencia fantástica: I can't say enough great things about Dr. Bechara! I cracked a filling the day I arrived in Colombia, and then it fell out two weeks later. Dr. Bechara came highly recommended, and I can absolutely see why. He's kind, caring, and did an amazing job. He did so great, I went back the next week for a full cleaning and a new night retainer to replace the permanent one that had been bothering me. The ultrasound cleaning is so quick! My teeth feel amazing. I'm in Santa Marta for a month with 20 others, and a large portion of them are now going to see him as well for various dental needs. From fixing chipped teeth, to retainers, to cleanings.... they have all loved him as well! He also speaks English, which is a bonus when you're still learning Spanish and aren't super fluent. Bottom line.... he's better than any of the dentists I've seen in the states. Thank you!

Dr. Alfonso was so amazing from the first time we called his office, he personally got on the phone with us, told us what we needed b4 arriving and agreed to see us immediately. The procedure went very well, and he provided follow up care. The office is clean and in a very secure building so my partner was able to wait outside with luggage and etc no problem.
